Summary of Article: |
It is said that Thai food has the perfect mixture of the features spicy, sweet, sour, salty, and bitter. The article visits the regions of Thailand and to each different style of food and different tastes popular to each region. The northeast is famous for their spicy papaya salad, the north for their curries and dips, the south for their curries and soups, and the central region for their vegetables and rice. The foods famous to each region are basically dictated by the climate, the people, and the availability. For example in the central region the vegetables and rice are more available because of the rivers which cause fertility for vegetation to grow in good health and at good rates. Instead of calorie rich chocolate cakes for dessert, Thailand gives fresh and tasty fruit such as mangosteen and bite size bananas for dessert.

Personal Observation: |
I am not a person to go out and try new things, I like sticking to what I already know. But I have to admit that Thailand food sounds too good to pass up. I love spicy and sweet food and I bet combined they make a delicious meal! I have tasted the rice and some sweet chicken from a Thailand themed restaurant and I have to say that I did enjoy it very much. I wonder how much more tastier it would be in Thailand since it would be more authentic? I'd wager that it would be even more delicious! if I were to take a trip to Thailand I would definitely try to taste everything I could, because after all Thailand seems a great place to start expanding my eating horizons!

Cultural Ties: |
The cultural identity of Thailand must revolve around the great food. People travel from all around the world to visit Thailand and taste their yummy salads, rice, potatoes, and all the other great foods. The south region of Thailand has a strong Muslim community so its no surprise the south has a distinctive but great flavor. Since the central is close to the waters there is much seafood to be chosen from! The cultural communities influence just what type of foods are preferred in certain regions. Food is a great way to get people together for a wonderful day with wonderful food, not ever running out of things to talk about! The climate, geographic, and people influence the food but the food influences the culture. Thailand would not be the same without their unbeatable cuisine.
