Personal Observations: |
The article reminds me of the importance of religion to a country's identity and to its people. Imagine having your faith taken away from you by some invaders? The communist rule took it away from the Bulgarian people and the Bulgarian people are still recovering from that which happened more than 70 years ago! The impact it continues to have till this days truly amazes me, but I am excited by the great recovery and the rising of the churches again. Faith is something everybody has a right to posses and it should never be taken away. Its always an indescribable feeling when you get something back you thought you lost forever.

Cultural Ties: |
The Bulgarian people took religion and their faith very seriously before it was taken away and after it was given back. Religion is a huge part of cultural identity because it can affect what they do and how they do it. They needed it to have something to believe in and to be free to find their peace. The Bulgarian Orthodox Church continues to have a huge following and a huge influence of the lives of the Bulgarians. The Bulgarian Orthodox Church is so powerful that it was named the traditional religion of Bulgaria by the government. Religion is an essential part of the cultural identity of Bulgaria now, because they now know how easily it can be taken away so they treasure it and hold it close.
